My Get Your Guide Review

Sometimes when you travel solo, it can be a bit overwhelming with the choice of tours. If you’re looking for a reliable tour platform for worldwide tours, I recommend Get Your Guide. I have used them all over the world for day tours and even recently for a 5 day tour to Taiwan! In this Get Your Guide review, I share who it’s for and why I love it.

N.b. If you’re unsure whether to book with Get Your Guide, they offer a flexible cancellation up to 24 hours before your tour so you don’t lose out if you need to cancel. And for every booking made through this article, I donate money to projects helping vulnerable girls about the globe. Thank you for helping!

Why Get Your Guide?

I had heard of Get Your Guide through our solo female community and researched their site to see if I could find a tour.

I was in Oslo and planning to visit the Arctic Circle for a pre-birthday treat. I had always wanted to see reindeer and learn more about the Sami culture, so I searched to see if they had this experience.

Having researched other tour websites, some of the Tromso tours were for a booking of a minimum of two people. The Get Your Guide website was one of the sites that allowed me to choose just one person for their guided tours and not be penalised for the price. * Check rates and availability for all Get Your Guide tours

My Get Your Guide Review – The Process

Is Get Your Guide a reliable website? Yes, and I found the process really easy to use. I usually book my tours last minute, so I searched for Tromso in the destination box and was instantly shown all the experiences for Get Your Guide Tromso.

A reindeer sledging and feeding with a Sami guide was the top small group experience. As I scrolled down, there was also snowshoeing and whale watching, amongst countless other activities available.

Clicking on the activity gave me more details, such as the full description, highlights and duration and what was included in the guided tour.

Important information was included for what I needed to know before the activity, such as the meeting point and time and a recommendation to wear at least two layers as the temperature was below freezing in Norway. * Check rates and availability for all Get Your Guide tours

Booking through the Tromso Get Your Guide partner

I checked the other Get Your Guide tour reviews to make sure it was a tour that I wanted to do.

For my experience there were the options of a 10 minutes sledding session or a 23-30 minute session. I chose the 25 minute one to get my full experience. I pressed ‘Add to cart’ and was told that my spot would be held for the next 60 minutes. Instead of pressing ‘checkout’, I created an account, using my email account.

Once I had entered all my details and paid for the activity with my debit card (they accept a credit card too), I was emailed my order and confirmation with a button to press to either get the mobile voucher or print my Get Your Guide voucher.

I was then sent an email for a link to the GetYourGuide App.

Change of Plan

A few days later I received an email through Get Your Guide from their local partner and tour company at Tromso Arctic Reindeer. Unfortunately, there hadn’t been enough snowfall, so the experience had changed from one of sledding to reindeer feeding instead. I wanted to see the reindeers and learn from a Sami tribe, so I was grateful that I was still able to interact with them. This wasn’t a problem for me, so we re-scheduled the tour for a day later.

Get Your Guide customer service refunded the difference in the tour price (as reindeer feeding was cheaper than sledding), and I received the payment back onto the same card within a few days. If I had chosen to cancel, I would have received a full refund.

My experience was fantastic! (you can read about it here). Afterwards, I received a follow-up email asking if I enjoyed my activity with a chance to rate it out of 5 stars.

Are They Good Value?

Yes. They offer competitive prices compared to other sites. My reindeer sledding tour was €130. Because I was unable to do this, I opted for the Reindeer ranch and Sami culture tour instead, which was cheaper at €115.16. You can find my GYG reindeer tour here

They confirmed my new tour and sent me the meeting point directions. The tour was really organised. The tour guide was really welcoming and enthusiastic. * Check rates and availability for all Get Your Guide tours

Pros of Using Get Your Guide

The positives about Get Your Guide are that there are several activities and experiences to choose from, and it’s really simple to use.

They also send you an email to share what everyone else is doing in the same destination to give you more ideas. All the activities are rated out of 5 stars, and you can read the Get Your Guide reviews before you choose to book.

When you do decide to book, the process is made really easy. You can choose several tours to put into your basket and then checkout in one go.

What I like about the process is that you can just download the mobile voucher to your phone instead of having to find somewhere to print it off. I usually arrange activities last-minute (during low season anyway), so I’m nearly always travelling and unable to print them off.

Cons of Using Get Your Guide

I honestly haven’t had any negative experiences with them. Even when my experience was not due to go ahead, they found an alternative for me so I could still have an experience that I wanted.

Overall, I found the communication with Get Your Guide quick and efficient, and I would definitely use it again. * Check rates and availability for all Get Your Guide tours

Who Are Get Your Guide For?

Even if you’re not a tour person, you can use them for tickets for attractions that you don’t want to miss out on. There are some experiences that are just easier to do on an organised tour instead of independently.

The tour included transport to and from the reindeer farm Tromso, reindeer feeding, a lunch of reindeer stew and a talk about Sami culture by the Sami guide. The tour lasted 4 hours.

I would recommend this platform for any solo travellers looking for Get Your Guide day trips, whether you are an ocean GatG, nature GatG, etc. For city and sightseeing GatGs, you can buy city passes for various cities, which save you money if you are planning on visiting many attractions.

They offer hiking tours, snorkelling tours. They are especially good for Arty & Museum Girl about the Globes as they offer museum tickets with many skip-the-line options, which are great for cities such as London, Paris and Barcelona that can get busy.

Who are they not for?

Anyone who doesn’t like tours and wants to organise and self-guide themselves. If you’re from North America, you may be more familiar with Viator, which is a similar tour platform. If you’re unsure whether to use Viator or Get Your Guide, read my Viator review for a comparison.
